Ling Liao

Hello!👋 I’m Ling Liao, a bioinformatics Ph.D. candidate specializing in interpretable machine learning and deep learning for predictive modeling, with applications to complex, multi-source biomedical data.

I’m deeply curious about how far AI can go in helping to create a better world — one that offers more opportunities to those who live to work, and helps reduce the need for people to work merely to live. A world with more love, color, and respect🌸.

Research Experience

  • Spatial Pathway Activity Mapping: Developed a framework that predicts spatial pathway activity directly from routine H&E histology images to reveal tumor microenvironment heterogeneity..
  • Interpretable ML for EHR: Designed subgroup-aware ML models to identify patient subgroups and generate subgroup-specific risk alerts.
  • ICU Mortality Prediction Interpretation: Benchmarked interpretability and ML methods to identify key clinical predictors.
  • Breast Cancer Diagnosis: Built reproducible DL pipelines on CBIS-DDSM dataset, enhancing transparency and reproducibility.
